Emergency Plan — Card for Guides

What to do in an emergency. All phones on One NZ will be using Starlink, which provides satellite phone coverage.

Injury / medical emergency
  1. Stop the group.
  2. Administer first aid.
  3. Contact Mark Abraham and advise what is required. Medical help will be sent if required.
Storm / flood / rockfall
  1. Move the group to the highest/safest ground.
  2. Count everyone.
  3. Send a text or call advising the situation. Help sent if required.
Lost / overdue / no contact
  1. Shelter the group.
  2. Send text: “OVERDUE – HELP REQUIRED”.
Any life-threatening situation
  1. CALL 111 and request Police and Ambulance.
  2. Contact Mark Abraham, or Ravit if unable to contact Mark.

Quick steps after requesting assistance

  1. Stay calm — help is coming.
  2. Keep the group together.
  3. Send a message (if possible): number of people / injuries / exact problem.
  4. Call Mark 027 496 6111.
  5. Wait for the helicopter or rescue team.
  6. When safe — call Mark again.

Emergency numbers (already programmed)

Never

  • Split the group.
  • Try to cross a flooded river.
  • Wait “to see if it gets better”.
